Experience Summary
I have been an AP Literature and Composition teacher as well as Twelfth grade Language Arts instructor for over 16 years. I am acutely aware of the needs of students as it relates to mastering reading and writing skills. I have also taught an ACT Prep course for the past 5 years after extensive training at workshops and conferences. I know the importance of identifying weaknesses in reading, writing, and on standardized tests such as the ACT and directing my instruction to those weaknesses. I am especially skilled at targeting writing weaknesses as it relates to both rhetoric and mechanics as I am a practicing writer myself. Though reading ability is gained with much practice, there are practice methods to increase speed and cognition. I differentiate my instruction both in the classroom and individually to work at all writing and reading levels so that maximum benefit is achieved by the student. For instruction on standardized tests such as the ACT, I focus primarily on reading because the ACT requires quick, accurate reading on 3 of the 4 tests that are measured (English, Reading, and Science Reasoning). Through hard work from both the student and instructor, scores can be maximized resulting in an easier path to college and scholarships. I look forward to working with you in order to tap into the true potential every student possesses.
