Experience Summary
I'm a NY-based writer, whose screenwriting work has been recognized by the Academy Award's Nicholl Fellowship, as well as, the NYTV Festival. I'm also a playwright with an MFA from Columbia whose work has been commissioned, developed, workshopped and produced locally at 2econd Stage, NYTW and Columbia University, as well as, regionally across the US. I've been a finalist for the O'Neill, semi-finalist for the P73 Fellowship, Hangar Lab Resident Playwright and a two-time Cherry Lane Mentor Nominee. I've taught TV writing to undergraduates/continuing ed students at Columbia University through the program Columbia Artists as Teachers.
Teaching Style
A great teacher to me is someone who creates a community where everyone contributes to a dialogue rather than just listening to a one-sided lecture. What I also find extremely important in the classroom is emphasizing process instead of final result, so that the student learns to make a substantial journey rather than a race to the finish line. I believe this not only inspires the enjoyment of storytelling, but helps students develop more confidence as writers, which results in better, more exciting work and more importantly, work they can believe in. This is what I'm like in the classroom.
