About Me

Experience Summary

My name is Jason Dinsmore and I am the creator of Organic Chemist On Call (OrganicChemistOnCall.com). I first began teaching chemistry in 1998, and I have been doing so ever since. I decided to create this online and in-person tutoring service in October of 2011 in order to provide students with help in organic chemistry on their time. I started with a dry erase whiteboard, a webcam, and one student in North Carolina. Now, I have been fortunate enough to have tutored all around the world! I never thought it would grow into what it is today. My intention is to provide the highest quality of education on your schedule. I understand that students these days are swamped with many academic and extracurricular activities. Therefore, I want to make sure that you have every opportunity to maximize your potential. My overall goals are: To make it easier and more accessible for students to get help; To distill down organic chemistry into its basic essentials thereby simplifying the subject matter; and To get students actively involved in their learning You can reach me at organicchemistoncall@yahoo.com. Look forward to seeing you online!

Teaching Style

I have discovered over my teaching tenure that it is not that students don’t understand organic chemistry, it is that they believe this is the case; many have bought into the myths that circulate about organic chemistry around the academic environments. From my own experience, I have yet to have a tutoring session where the student has not grasped the concepts within the first 5 minutes of a session. It is just a matter of recontextualizing the subject matter in a more friendly and digestible manner so the students can incorporate it into their language and style of learning.

Subject Commentary

Organic Chemistry This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I received my BS in chemistry and my MS, Ph.D, and post-doctoral education in organic chemistry. Since 1998, my academic career has allowed me to teach chemistry to a wide variety of audiences, from high school students to assistant professors. During my tutoring sessions, I have noticed that assessing the student’s preference of learning is of upmost importance. This basic inquiry then allows me to tailor the session to their specific needs. Typically, I make use of everyday objects to help facilitate the student’s comprehension of the course material.
