Teaching Style
Learning can be hard. Memorization can be hard. Knowing how to determine the proper equation to use in a chemistry or math equation can be hard. What I focus on with my students is not simply telling them the information and how they should go about finding the right answer but, more importantly, why the answer they are choosing is correct. What that does is to force them to learn the actual skill and when to use a given equation or what a sign or symbol indicates in terms of the type of problem they are trying to solve. By doing this, I find, the student is able to get to the core of not simply stuffing equations, grammar terms, or scientific terminology in their heads and then unloading them on the test. Rather - and this is my main objective with each student - they understand why their answer is right. They LEARN.
An easy way to test this is when quizzing them and browsing their answers I ask them why and how they came to that conclusion. This is going beyond simple information cramming for test time and pushes the student to actual comprehend the information.
This is where true learning occurs. An easy way to test this is when quizzing them and browsing their answers I ask them why and how they came to that conclusion. This is going beyond simple information cramming for test time and pushes the student to actually learn the underlying concepts of the subject matter. It's pointless to simply do an answer check, tell them what they got right and wrong and THE INSTRUCTOR becomes the person to tell them why the answer is wrong. Don't put them on the spot in front of peers but overwhelm them with confidence and reiterating back to them you and they already know.
The manner in which each unique human being learns is not simply and exclusively, anatomical or genetic - environmental factors, emotional health, etc. are just as crucial. out and moves on to the next chapter or subject. Rather - and this is my main objective with each student - they understand why their answer is right.
This can be painstaking and long but I don't expect any different and it a reward that is unmatched when you get through to a student and you see the smile they're trying to hide when they come to the realization that they are making progress and and making tangible improvements.
A teacher exists because their student simply needs more personal attention than can be granted in their classroom full of their peers. Many students don't feel comfortable asking questions or fall through the cracks without their true academic potential having been reached. Ultimately, this is the most vital role a tutor can play in that students life and the most rewarding.

Physiology |
This is one of my top subjects!
Proficiency: Expert
|
Similar to anatomy, some physiology is certainly part of the personal training requirements in terms of being trained and instructed and having to display a very strong knowledge of this. However, as the coruse I tutored for two years in college was Anatomy & Physiology, I am very comfortable in this subjet. |
Reading Comprehension |
Proficiency: Experienced
|
Going along with the ability to write and an above average comphrehension of vocabulary and essay writing - you almost have to be able to do just essentially the opposite. As stated, my experience in writing for 4 years for the schol newspaper, past and current work as a health articel writer for the online health magazine www.mindandmuscle.net has armed me with he ability to grasp stories, or subject matter and relay what is difficult subject matter - reading - to my student - and teach it to them in a understandable and absorable manner such that they truly do learn the subject. |
