Experience Summary
I have played tournament chess for over 25 years (US Chess rating 2113 - Expert). I have tutored chess for over 25 years for all ages, individual and groups. I have been the coach for the Benjamin Middle School chess team for 23 years. (We've won 4 Illinois State Championships!) I also have been the coach for the West Chicago High School chess team for 17 years. In addition, I have taught chess at park districts and libraries, as well as one-on-one lessons in my home (or agreed locaton) for numerous students.
I currently teach at both schools mentioned above and have 12 private students.
Teaching Style
My style is play instructional sparring games with each student. I then teach students how to record their chess games in writing so that we can review games that they play with family and friends and competitors in tournaments. I provide ample instructional material on all phases of chess and lend out chess books and videos as well. I also assist with findng and recommending suitable tournaments and clubs where chess students can play.
