Experience Summary

I began tutoring in 2006 for Sylvan Learning Center in Brownsville, TX. On August of 2009 I moved to Iowa to start a graduate program, there I was assigned diverse teaching duties. I have taught courses like Calculus I, II, and II. I have held recitations for Business Calculus courses as well. While at ISU, I also tutored for the Academic Success Center and on my own.

Teaching Style

I have received only praise and good comments from both students, fellow teachers, and department administrators and staff. This is most certainly because I strive for excellency in my teaching. I become a counselor, a friend, a mentor for my students. I try to understand their individual needs and encourage their collaboration as a group towards a common objective. I attempt to change their perspective, from only passing the class, to actually learning and enjoying. I can provide evaluations to you that, reflect how students have been touched by my teachings changing them in positive and productive ways. That is my goal, their success but not only academically, I want to make sure that their experience as my students helps them succeed in all aspects of their lives.

My Hobbies

Teaching is my way of giving back to the community. I was a student once who needed help, and got help, now it is my turn. As a father of three children, I continue learning and improving myself to be their role-model. I believe that ethical values, professionalism, and respect are the base to become a better human being, and thus better at what one does. I like exercising, reading, writing, and I maintain myself aware of current events in our world and in our country. I practice my rights as a citizen but also take care of my responsibilities.

Other Comments

I obtained my GED at the age of 16 while learning English, (my first language is Spanish). Later, realizing that a college education was within my grasp, I started my undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Brownsville; where I graduated from with a Bachelor's degree in computer science. My fascination with the philosophy of mathematics, turned me in the direction of a Master's degree in pure mathematics at the aforementioned institution by the end of 2008. After that, I attended Iowa State University where I was granted a Master's degree in applied mathematics by the end of 2012.
