Experience Summary
For the past 2 years I have been the chess coach for New World Montessori School with 20 to 25 children ages 5 to 12 in my class. I received my certification from the U.S. Chess Federation in April 2012 and in June 2012 I began tutoring children in my home. I have taken students with no prior knowledge of the game to their first tournament and place in the tournament with 6 months of starting their chess lessons.
Teaching Style
I work out of my home with groups ranging from 1 to 4 students. My method caters to the way children think and my workbooks present each lesson in a logical manner. I teach each lesson in a progressive manner so that each concept builds on the previous one, progressing to the next lesson only after the child understands the current concept.
My Hobbies
I collect vintage board games, especially chess sets.
Other Comments
I solely focus on chess education and do not infuse math or science lectures in the material. I believe that when properly taught, chess teaches logic, reasoning, and critical thinking naturally improving a child's ability to understand the abstract concepts of math and science.
