Experience Summary
Teaching is my passion, and I strongly believe my students are successful because I believe in them. Over the past fifteen years, I have been blessed to have worked with a variety of students as an elementary teacher in Forsyth County. I have taught primarily upper grade elementary students, from gifted to at-risk, and I have three college degrees in the field of education (elementary, middle, and leadership). Although I have taught all subjects in my teaching career, my ultimate favorite subject is math. Math is difficult for many students, and I feel that I have what it takes to help students overcome that obstacle. My most recent validation of what is do daily was becoming my school's Teacher of the Year in 2012. I have respect not only from my students, but my colleagues view me as a teacher leader at my school. Through an array of professional development opportunities, I have learned many strategies and techniques that I use with my students to raise their achievement level. I believe teaching is a gift, and I would love to be able to share my gift with you and your child.
Teaching Style
The key to making any student successful is building a relationship with them first, and they will work for you if you have their respect. I do believe that if a student knows how much you care about them as a person, they will want to do whatever it takes to become succesful. My teaching style includes the use of manipulatives, repeated practice, written/oral responses, and technology integration when applicable. Every student learns differently, so of course, the style of teaching I would use with your student would be individualized. Please contact me at dhunt@forsyth.k12.ga.us if you are interested.
My Hobbies
I enjoy boating, swimming, and spending time with my family.
