Experience Summary
I have drawn my entire life and find it very fulfilling. I finally decided to use my abilities professionally and am currently pursuing an art degree in graphic design. I've had 3 professional clients (as of 9/17/2012) since i started a week ago and really enjoy helping other people to realize their ambitions and hidden talents. I've also given lots of instruction to relatives and my friends children. Everyone I have worked with so far has been in the 7-15 age group and I teach a mostly beginner to novice curriculum. I can work with somebody who has absolutely no knowledge of how to draw and within a 2 hour lesson give them the tools to begin creating whatever they imagine.
Teaching Style
I'm most effective as a weekly, 2 hour, instructor. I work best with individuals or small groups but any reasonably sized class is acceptable. The first lesson has traditionally been (for the first hour) a "diagnostic" lesson where i see how well you can replicate a 2D image in front of you, then a variation of that image you generate in your imagination. After this I usually teach my students how any image is made from a composite of different shapes, and how to recognize these shapes and use them as building blocks to create images. I bring supplemental materials that teach about 1 and two point perspective as well as light sources. I'm currently trying to find a good resource for worksheets to use as homework/study material.
My Hobbies
Drawing, reading, writing, I like low key activities like visiting museums and exploring the wilderness with friends. I mostly enjoy spending time with my fiance and our two dogs.
