Experience Summary
I am a full time Arabic Lecturer at Santa Clara University. I have taught Beginner and Intermediate Modern Standard Arabic for 3 years at Indiana University. I have also taught and tutored Classical Arabic for 7 years. Additionally, I am a PhD candidate in Linguistics and I am trained in both theoretical and applied second language acquisition, particularly in the acquisitional stages of language development. Finally, I have developed a number of online tutorials for learners and teachers, free to the public and I have specialized training in language pedagogy, particularly Arabic.
Teaching Style
For Classical Arabic, I use a grammar translation method, i.e. I the student acquires the grammatical terms while translating.
For Modern Arabic, I use a communicative and task based method, i.e. the student acquires the ability to communicate effectively.
I provide authentic audio, video and text-based resources as well as my own handouts developed for my classroom.
