Experience Summary
August 29, 2011-November 30, 2011 and February 6, 2012-April 14, 2012: I taught English Language Arts and Reading to 6th grade (gifted and inclusion) students as an MAT student-teacher at a military school; as part of the same program I taught English Language Arts to at-risk 9th-12th grade students.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing Poetry and Prose as well as a Masters in Teaching English Language Arts and Reading (Certification: English, Reading, and History 6-12 grades)I have significant experience with the creation and analysis of a wide variety of literature and creative writing. I have 4 years of experience with workshopping creative work.
I have given four presentations to teachers and educators on my own classroom research in 2012 including: The Georgia Council of Teachers of English, Annual Georgia College Research Conference and Georgia College Showcase, and Beyond Standards: Reimagining Our Literate Roots Conference.
I am an award-winning, published poet. I have written short stories, essays, two plays, and am working on another novel.
Teaching Style
I have taught 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. I expect hard work and dedication.
I use classroom-tested teaching strategies that include but are not limited to role-play, reader-response, kinesthetic and tactile movement, drawing, and holistic engagement in the "story-world" to help students understand and connect to the literature.
I am patient.
My Hobbies
Writing short stories, poetry, and novels; composing CCGPS unit plans for English Language Arts; reading a wide variety of literature.
