Experience Summary
I studied abroad for one year in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I not only learned to speak the language with fluency, but I also took classes in Spanish grammar and vocabulary. I have a Bachelors of science in Psychology with a minor in Spanish from North Greenville University as well as a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored all levels of college Spanish, including Spanish I-IV, and I took classes in Spanish literature and history, including a study abroad class in Honduras. I also volunteered as a translator for a free clinic during my undergraduate studies and have volunteered as a Spanish translator on several mission trips to Mexico and Guatemala with my local church. Since receiving my Masters degree, I have used my Spanish language proficiency in providing family counseling to Latin American families in Spanish as well as volunteering as a counselor with the Salvation Army's human trafficking program providing counseling in Spanish to female Latin American trafficking victims. I have a great deal of experience with Spanish grammar, vocabulary, conjugations, reading, and writing and a passion for helping others learn the language as well. I would love to be a part of helping you or your child learn more about a language I love.
Teaching Style
I always like to assess the learning style of my students before we begin tutoring so that I can adjust my teaching style to each individual student. I will identify the topics each child is working on and incorporate outside worksheets and other information to help the student better understand each concept and be better equipped to not only perform well in the classroom but genuinely understand and be able to apply the concepts.
My Hobbies
I love to sing, make jewelry, listen to jazz music, spend time with my husband and friends, and just enjoy life! I greatly enjoy my full time job as a counselor, helping young adults learn valuable independent living skills and make the transition from childhood to adulthood a little more smoothly.
