Experience Summary
My name is Krystal and am originally from Puerto Rico, a small island in the Caribbean. Therefore, I speak fluent Spanish; it is my first language. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and I am currently a graduate student at the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania pursuing a master's degree in education.
In addition to my studies I like to be involved in co-curricular activities within the university. I have being the president of a few organizations, such as International Students Affiliation (ISA), and Latino Student Organization (LSO). Also, I volunteer at the Early Learning University (YMCA-ELU), work at the Office of Students with Disabilities, and tutor college students in Spanish. In these positions I have had the opportunity to share my traditions and appreciate other cultural and ethnic values while enriching my education. In addition, I have had the chance to make a difference in the lives of students, gain valuable work experience, and interact with children.
I am a very optimistic person who likes to help people and share my learning experience with others; this is one of the reasons I want to become a teacher. My optimism and helpfulness are why I like to be a leader in most of the organizations of which I am currently a member, but that doesn’t hinder me to learn from others.
I have completed a BA in Spanish at the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and I want to be able to share what I’ve learned from my life experience and be able to lead others onto the right path. I have previous tutoring experience from a few years ago when I was in high school. I tutored elementary students of which few of them had learning disabilities. I tutored all elementary subjects for a few years in an after school program and later decided to tutor independently.
