Experience Summary
I have taught in both high school the last 7 years and college for 2 years teaching reading and writing. I have taught English in the summers 2007-2010 to International Students. I have taught reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary. I have done prep for the HSPA prior to the test. All the students do three projects and with mp4 movies have been tape recorded and uploaded to my blog. I give them the url http://daylightblogs.org/esltech and mrwhalen and they get to see how they spoke, and conveyed the information. The ESL students are especially adept at art and drawing maps, historical scenes, and 1-2 dimensional projects. I love teaching and use the internet for practicing English and apps that are used on IPAD for writing practice and sending materials to the teacher for comments.
Teaching Style
My style is more formal with the beginning students who need a lot of structure and have to do repetitive exercises to beging the process of learning English as a second language. Overall, as the students advance in their knowledge I have them leave the classroom and interview teachers or other people and then they are videotaped and they can write their own material. So the teaching style is more fluid then at the beginning.
My Hobbies
I like to read about any subject i can understand or am new to. I love movies mainly dramas, science fiction and mysteries. I love all kinds of music except punk rock. I love to dance latin, and to hip hop. I like to travel in USA and overseas my favorite trip was to Australia in 1996. I lived in Alaska and became a long distance runner now I walk. I like to talk to and meet new people and learn about their culture.
