About Me

Experience Summary

I have taught Adult English ESOL at an education center in Hillsborough County. I taught students from many different countries, backgrounds, and who spoke different languages. The language and cultural exchanges were wonderful. My students progressed rapidly. I taught English to adults while in the Peace Corps in Bolivia (2007-2008). Previous to teaching adults, I spent many years teaching kindergarten and primary students and have tutored elementary students in FCAT skills .

Teaching Style

I teach ESOL using a variety of methods emphasizing the areas of conversation, grammar, pronounication, reading and writing. My students are actively involved and enjoy their time in class. I always start with what my students need and want- for instance, if they are concerned about oral conversation in a business or work setting, college course work, englarging their vocabulary, or working on everyday conversations. I encourage my students to keep a journal and to write down problems they may encounter between tutoring sessions, so we can address their questions together. I plan carefully for our sessions so that my students make good use of their time with me and progress rapidly. In teaching children, I am patient, work on motivation and developing good study habits as well as specific skills to be successful learners.

My Hobbies

I enjoy traveling, painting, gardening, volunteering, and, of course, teaching!
