Experience Summary
University of California-Berkeley graduate in individual major titled "Diplomacies to End the Division of Europe-1949-1990." Tutored English to German students in Germany, and returned to America to "give back". Specializing in one-on-one tutoring with resources and interactive activities found on the internet as well as worksheets on paper.
I am very patient and have a record of success with my past students. They have averaged a 25% increase in test scores after a minimum of 4 lessons to a maximum of 10 lessons.
Looking forward to gaining my teaching credentials this Fall.
Teaching Style
In an effort to conjure mutual respect, I approach each student more like a peer rather than a teacher, although they know who is an charge. With my elementary students, I have been known to kick a soccer ball around with them or read them a book... schedule permitting. "Play time" is my pro bono contribution after a good lesson.
My Hobbies
Reading, Writing, History, the Arts, Current Events, Sports, Jeopardy (the game show).
Other Comments
The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think—rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with the thoughts of other men.
John Dewey
In their innocence, I find so much creativity in the minds of our young, one they feel that they are in a safe place to explore. Although I focus on achieving academic standards, I have been most successful in giving students the time and place to simply share with me who they are.
