Experience Summary
My business career has been in growing companies, private and public, as CEO, COO, and CFO.
Most recently, as Finance Director of Norwood Promotional Products’ manufacturing plant in San Antonio, TX, the company’s largest manufacturing location, $85 million, of $350 million national company: Identified inventory issues, improved inventory analysis, reduced inventory $10 million in twelve months; focused implementation of new accounting system on inventory and customer service issues; analyzed price reductions of $900,000 proposed for 2008 catalog -- restored $760,000 of margin; determined that 8 of 11,000 distributors market 10% of this site’s products, 350 market 50%, enabling Marketing and Sales to focus their resources.
Prior to that, as Director of Finance for Pinnacle Technical Resources (PTR) in Dallas, TX: a $40 million (revenues) company, I upgraded their accounting system to MS Dynamics SL from Quickbooks, changed their payrolling company (a key component, since they are an IT staffing company) saving $40,000 a year, identified both the need for a new accounting firm, and several firms that are qualified, at projected annual savings of $35,000 to $90,000, and discovered $100,000 in R&D tax credits they didn't know they had.
As COO with full P&L responsibility, I led the team that grew a regional service company to $60 million from $20 million in six years, a 28% compounded rate of growth. Earnings rose at 42% compounded during the same period, and the stock rose to $250 per share from $2.50 per share (unadjusted for splits and dividends). Subsequently, I founded my own company that I managed from start-up to $18 million over a five year period. In both these companies I directed all finance and accounting, as well as $250 million of real estate development. For four years I was CEO of the two leading mediation/arbitration companies providing legal services nationwide.
I have written business plans that secured $40 million of equity financing, managed several public stock offerings -- including prospectus writing and road shows -- and personally represented that newly public company to Wall Street analysts. My venture capital and investment banking contacts are current, and include M&A experience both as buyer and seller. My education includes an MBA from Harvard Business School with distinction.
