Experience Summary
I have over 12 years of experience in the elementary education field. While my passion is reading instruction, I am certified and have taught in all elementary subjects: math, science and social studies.I have spent the last 8 years working as a reading specialist at a K-5 elementary school and the past three summers as a reading tutor with Lynchburg College's Summer Reading Clinic. I believe that all students can learn and have a passion for bringing the gift of literacy to the world. I have taught courses at the graduate level in Word Study and Foundations of Reading and have a wealth of literacy and study strategies identified as best instructional practices as identified by current reading research.I am constantly collecting mew ideas and reading articles to improve my craft.
My background allows me to work well with students and readers of any age and/or ability level and in many different environments.
Teaching Style
I believe in matching books to students based upon reading level as well as interest. My teaching syle is based upon all types of texts (books. internet, magazines)and many hands on activities to engage even the most relecutant learners. I am energetic and enhusiastic and feel that my passion for life time learning transfers to my students.
