Experience Summary
In my quest to achieve my goals of bringing these issues to their attention or dispelling social myths, I create an interactive classroom environment that allows for exploring sociological concepts utilizing different learning styles. Recognizing the different learning styles and diversity of students I have in my class has lead me to develop and engage in activities with my students such as hands on workshops, discussions, structured debate, and opinion paper writing. All of these techniques are employed in the development of critical thinking skills and the undertaking of critical analysis. I believe that the development of critical thinking skills has benefits for my students that extend beyond an Introductory Sociology class, and prepare students for their future lives and careers, and as I previously mentioned to become informed citizens in a society where there is no dearth of information, but a dearth of analysis on how to interpret or understand the information we as a society are given. It is my goal as a sociology instructor to give these students tools that will allow them to not only successfully navigate through their own lives, but also to one day seek to make a difference in the lives of others, utilizing the critical thinking and analysis tools they received in my classes.
