Experience Summary
I have been an art student my entire life & it has changed the way I look at things. Art can teach us so much about how to see the world because it forces us to look at things in different ways. My experience with Art Therapy in particular has shown me that the creative process itself can be a joyful & healing experience, no matter what you are creating. It is one of my goals to share this joy with the people I work with, while achieving our given objective. I have been fortunate enough to get to play with a wide variety of artistic mediums both in a structured school setting and unstructured home environment. I have had collegiate-level training in painting, drawing, sculpting, 3-D design, 2-D design, metal work, enameling, and mixed-media. My passion however, is in painting, both acrylic and oil-based. My teaching experience comes from several internships I had during undergrad and graduate school. These internships allowed me to work with a variety of ages and ability levels.
Teaching Style
I have a gentle, empathic teaching approach that tends to ease the frustrations felt by those that are hitting a creative 'roadblock'. Because I have been a student so long, I understand the frustrations that can come from a class that you don't understand. I also understand the joy that comes with overcoming one's perceived challenges. No matter what one's ability level is, they have the potential to be so much more than they can imagine. It is my goal to provide the necessary tools & encouragement to take them to that next level of achievement.
