Experience Summary
Most of my experience is informal with tutoring family members/church members/friends in whatever areas they were struggling. Nearly everyone was pleased with what I was able to teach them and they showed improvement. In addition to tutoring, I have also mentored. In particular, at Emory University, I have for three years served as a mentor to incoming freshmen. I have helped them become acclimated to Emory and have also helped them create plans for courses and future plans. Therefore, I am confident in my tutoring and mentoring abilities.
Teaching Style
I start out with discussing the area of weakness with the student and then try to investigate why this might be the area of weakness. Once this is discovered, I teach the student (through examples) until they understand the topic with which they need help. Then, I observe how they perform without my guidance and see if they have learned to complete problems solo.
Other Comments
I feel that my intense education at Emory University has caused me to appreciate learning and this appreciation is something I would like to share with others through tutoring. I also feel that because of my intense education, I am qualified to tutor in several areas.
