Experience Summary
I attended an arts specific high school where I completed an intensive 4 year creative writing program. During that time I was published several times by award winning literary journals and publications in the Northern Virginia area. My writing has also been published several times in college. Boston University's literary magazine BURN picked up two of my short stories, and I was a leading weekly contributor to BU's online magazine, The Quad. While at the Quad, I had several articles commissioned by outside companies who had been impressed with my work, including the award winning Danish film company Zentropa. With my background, I have extensive experience with Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Script/Play writing, and can offer assistance and guidance in those areas.
Teaching Style
As an instructor, my style is usually to help a writer discover what they are trying to say, even if they aren't sure of it. From there, we can tackle the point and purpose of their story, which will help all of the other aspects click together. I can recommend short stories or novels by writers who seem to have the same style as the writer I'm working with, and will work with them to examine the methods and techniques that these writers use how they may be beneficial to my own students work. Ultimately, my goal is to make sure that the writer creates exactly what he set out to create. Not my vision, not the vision of any other writer, but their own piece, something that is unique to their skills and could not have been created by anyone else.
