About Me

Experience Summary

I have been writing since I was 10 years old. I have written for school papers, organized and contributed to yearbooks, performed and won oratorical writing contest. While in college I was nominated by my Creative Writing professor to become the Editor of the student literary magazine "Pegasus" at Delaware County Community College. Once I graduated from DCCC with my Associates in Communication, I transferred to Shippensburg University where I majored in Communication-Journalism and double minored in English and Women & Gender Studies. While at Ship I had a weekly column for the student newspaper, "The Slate," and I also was asked to contribute two articles for the 2009-2010 student yearbook, "The Cumberland Yearbook." During my time at Ship I also tutored a few college students, and edited research papers. While at Ship I also received the Betty Shabazz Leadership Award for my role as President of the Multi-ethnic Student Association. In Fall 2011 I interned at Mighty Writers, a non-profit after school program that helps students read and write better. I received the Mighty Volunteer of the Month award for Mighty Writers for the work I did with the students in grades 2nd-5th.

Teaching Style

Every student is different, regardless of gender or age. Their learning style is different, therefore my teaching style has to be designed specifically for their learning level. Some students are audio learners, and some like myself are visual. But I try to teach in a way where they are really understanding the information for the long haul, not just temporarily for the specific assignment.

My Hobbies

Reading, writing, volunteering, spending time with family and friends.

Creative Writing Proficiency: Experienced
I have taken a few Creative Writing courses, and I think CW is where you can become so imaginative And uninhibited.
Elementary Reading Proficiency: Experienced
Last fall I began working with a non-profit afterschool writing program where I helped primarily 2nd-5th graders with spelling, writing and reading. In just a short time I begin to notice changes in their writing styles, spelling and reading. They begin to understand a bit more, and not become so frustrated and overwhelmed. It's a work in progress, but some of their grades have improved tremendously.
Journalism This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert

Shakespeare Proficiency: Experienced
I took a few Shakespeare courses when I minored in English. I have so many Shakespeare favorites, and know a lot more than just "Romeo & Juliet."
Spelling This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Expert
I LOVE words. I enjoy learning new words to add to my vocabulary, and helping others enhance their spelling.
Writing This is one of my top subjects! Proficiency: Experienced
Writing is my passion. I love telling stories, sharing my views and making people think about issues they normally wouldn't. My love for writing is what made me major in Communication-Journalism. I don't want to say I am an "expert" in writing because there's always MORE to achieve in writing, always more to discover about your personal writing style.
