Experience Summary
I am a native Chinese speaker, who is advanced in speaking, reading, and writing Chinese and proficient in all aspects of English. I finished high school at an English public school in Hong Kong where all subjects are taught in English except for Chinese language and Chinese history classes, so I have a much better understanding of the differences between English and Chinese grammar and idiomatic expressions when compared to other native Chinese speakers. Although most people from Hong Kong only speak Cantonese, I speak Mandarin at home since my family is from mainland China. This special background has enabled me to know how to write both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. In addition, I took Practicum in Chinese I and II at Lipscomb University, in which I worked as a Chinese teaching assistant by setting up drills for different chapters and preparing notes for students. These various experiences have been extremely helpful to me in understanding the common difficulties and errors that American students are likely to have and make when learning Chinese.
