Experience Summary
I am a published award winning writer with more than 20 years professional writing experience. My background includes journalism, contemporary poetry, essay, and editing and copywriting for business as well as teaching. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with highest honors from University of California, Berkeley in 1995. I began publishing in my twenties prior to my academic career and won an award from California Press Women for Investigative Reporting. I co taught middle school for two years at Horace Mann Academic Middle School (San Francisco, CA) while participating in ThinkWrite, a program which teamed and trained professional writers in the workplace with classroom teachers to promote critical thinking and writing. I still consider those two years the most rewarding period in my career. Today, I am as passionate about reading and writing and language as I was when I began to unlock those mysteries for myself as a young child.
Teaching Style
I look for what sparks a student's interest and in the process of working together I develop creative tools to develop an individual's natural writing voice. I provide guidance with structure, word choice, syntax, grammar and spelling and I can recommend - and provide - supplemental reading in a student's area of interest.
My Hobbies
Salsa dance, voice, reading/writing, personal essay, gardening.

Reading and writing have been my passions since I was a young girl. It is my joy to encourage and guide other writers and to help them develop their skills and enjoyment of reading, writing and critical thinking.
