About Me

Experience Summary

With more than 15 years' experience as a newspaper reporter, I have served on the staffs of local and niche newspapers. I have literally covered everything under the sun, ranging from covering a draft horse competition to writing a feature about a former Ku Klux Klan Grand Dragon member. In my spare time, I write freelance articles for national trade publications and design jewelry. I've been designing jewelry for nearly as long as I've been writing. I don't use patterns and I don't copy someone else's work. A lot of my work has been featured in several popular jewelry-making magazines, I've sold at local, regional and national juried art shows and museum shops, and even was featured on an HGTV "That's Clever!" segment. Did I mention I also studied with Joyce Scott? If you don't know who that is, Google her.

Teaching Style

Sure, I can teach you the basics of article writing, but do you really know how to generate ideas to write about? Do you have resources at your fingertips to help you along the way? And, once you have the idea and resources, do you know how to effectively sell it to editors? If you're looking to get your creative juices flowing, I'm your girl! I can help you every step of the way, from developing and executing a design idea, showing you how to grow your "hobby" into a lucrative business, and how to get yourself noticed in this competitive industry. I strongly believe in "each one, teach one" and I have a ton of knowledge and experience in both industries to share. I have a laid back, down to earth, the sky is "not" the limit approach. No matter what you dream of doing, there are no limits! Just go for it and keep pushing for what you want to achieve.

My Hobbies

When I'm not embroiled in writing or making jewelry, I love reading about Tudor history, crocheting, spinning and dyeing my own yarn, needlepoint, a little knitting (still a novice), and most recently HAIR! Yes, I'm interested in hair, the "natural hair movement" to be exact. That's my big focus right now, so I blog about it and I'm in the process of launching yet another business catering to the needs of natural hair care via an organic hair line created right in my very own kitchen!
