Experience Summary
A life long love of learning has influenced me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and more recently, a Master’s degree in Human Relations with an emphasis in counseling. The completion of these degrees was accomplished around the responsibilities of being in the US Army but my determination and flexibility enabled me to eventually achieve my educational goals. My experience in the US Army also provided an excellent opportunity to interact with a very diverse group of people. I have mentored and trained people of different ages who had different learning styles.
Teaching Style
I believe learning should be fun regardless of one’s age and I will strive to make reading a fun as possible for each child I tutor. Reading for pleasure or to successfully complete a variety of assignments is very important to academic achievement and certainly enhances our personal lives. I believe all children can learn but they do so at different speeds and preferred methods. Constant encouragement and achievable goals help children reach their potential. I am patient and persistent and would help your child continue to improve his or her reading skills. I have tutored an adult woman from the Philippines who had a third grade education by using the Laubach Literacy method and thoroughly enjoyed it.
