Experience Summary
I attended college on an opera scholarship and finished my degree in English. I have a very diverse background which makes me able to relate to everyone I meet. I believe fully that every person has the ability to succeed, that all things are possible. I have been teaching for over five years, including running an at-risk school for middle-school and high-school students. I have taught (in no particular order) Mathematics, Reading, Art, Science, Social Studies, Singing, Music Theory and Appreciation, Literature, Logic, Philosophy, Writing, Poetry, and others, and my focus has always been upon the individual learner. I typically am able to move an individual up by multiple grade levels within a month in reading or mathematics.
Teaching Style
I believe that everything is interconnected, much like a spider web, and that if you can connect information to what interests a person, than learning can become easy, and fun, and more importantly, less stressful and more meaningful. When information is difficult to understand, it is not the fault of the student, in my opinion; it is, if any fault at all, the fault of the teacher who is not presenting it properly. I believe that it is my job as a teacher to be able to re-present the information according to the learning style of the individual until the student is able to understand it according to his or her needs, and this is why I am so successful at what I do. I am very calm and easygoing and am very good at working with teens.
