Experience Summary
I received a BA degree in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State Univ, Chico. My experiences have prepared me well to meet the tutoring needs of each individual student. I have tutored privately since 1999, working with students ages 6-15 in multiple subjects, homework help and study skills. I taught Math, Language Arts, Technology, Science and Social Studies in my own classroom for 5 years (grades 2, 4, 5 and 9). I also taught English as a Second Language in Korea. These experiences have introduced me to great methods to help each student achieve their potential, yet I am always learning and growing along with each student I tutor.
Teaching Style
I believe that teaching is about relationships. If I can cultivate a trust between myself and a student, it creates the right foundation for success. By being real and honest with students and encouraging them to be themselves, I clear the pathway for the best learning to happen. I tap into the prior knowledge of the student, find a confident, secure starting place for them, and then introduce new ways of thinking. Through student-centered methods, I create ways for them to discover and build on the concepts. This builds a cycle of confidence and a love of learning- to motivate the student toward grade-level accomplishments and beyond.
