Experience Summary
During my journey to complete my B.S. of Biology at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey I was inspired to help others educate themselves. I informally tutored my peers in biology and writing courses. I was recommended to become a writing tutor at this institution but was graduating too early to complete the required qualifying courses. I edited a plethora of biology lab reports as well as research papers for various majors. I completed my Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). I have studied chemical and biological sciences for 4 years and completed an exam that assesses my knowledge I have acquired from such courses.
Teaching Style
Through my experience with Big Brothers Big Sisters and MAXIM Healthcare Services, I have tutored many children with different educational backgrounds that required different concentrated attention. I gauge how I tutor a child by their personal needs. I take the time needed to understand the child’s personality and listen to which is their preferred style of learning. I choose to gain their trust and build their confidence immediately. Used techniques are: verbal (lecture), visual (flashcards, diagrams, etc.), repetition (both verbal and visual), games, question and answer sessions, and more. It is most important to use the method that is the most effective to the child’s educational and emotional needs.
