Experience Summary
I have been a teaching assistant for six semesters at University of Hawaii at Manoa where I earned my Ph.D. in Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, and have taught a variety of writing intensive biology and microbiology labs. I’ve also had extensive tutoring experience since I was an undergraduate in biochemistry and have learned how to communicate effectively with students that are having a tough time with math. I specialize in math and science, but am also able to help with reading comprehension and all types of writing. I was the assistant editorials editor for the University of Hawaii Manoa newspaper, Ka Leo, and have worked with many writers to improve clarity and grammar.
Teaching Style
I believe that the best way to teach is by integrating the artistic with the rational and have even founded a non-profit organization that is dedicated to teaching sustainability and systems theory using a combined approach. I hope to provide students with examples of interconnectedness in order for them to be able to synthesize information presented during lectures and readings with other aspects of their lives. I'm a very enthusiastic, patient, and inquiring teacher. My joy comes from building confidence and empowering students with the methods to tackle any problem.
