Experience Summary
I received a BS in Chemistry, Physics minor from San Jose State University, and a PhD in Chemistry from UC Berkeley. I tutored chemistry students while an undergraduate at SJSU, and taught 3 semesters of organic chemistry as a graduate student instructor at UC Berkeley. As an industry researcher, I still am constantly learning from and instructing to colleagues in my field, as chemistry is a continuously evolving field. My expertise is in organic and polymer/materials chemistry.
Teaching Style
To be successful in chemistry, the student should learn the fundamentals well enough to "know" how to proceed, because memorization can only take one so far. I try to prepare students to be able to build upon their own knowledge to reach a useful conclusion to the task at hand. "I don't know" is not a valid answer. I coach in order to tie the “somethings” one does know together in a way that allows one to proceed.
