Experience Summary
Teaching reading is my favorite aspect of teaching, in part because I have been such an avid reader all my life and I know the potential that can be unlocked once a student becomes a motivated and successful reader. I have taught reading and writing to students Kindergarten-8th grade, with a particular emphasis on elementary students. Following the completion of my teaching credential I continued in graduate school to complete my Master’s Degree in Education, with a specialization in Reading and Language Arts instruction. Last year I completed a year-long training in order to receive my certification in Reading Recovery.
Teaching Style
I want your student to love reading as much as I do. I enjoy empowering young readers to believe they are capable of reading and that reading is a pleasurable activity. I help students develop effective strategies so they can be successful in reading, and genuinely enjoy reading independently. I believe in using a model of positive inquiry, building on what a student can already do well and what motivates them, then moving forward from there. By getting to know what my students are interested in and using that as a starting point for exploration, I have helped students change from being reluctant readers to avid readers.
