Experience Summary
As a graduate from Rowan University’s MA in Writing, I tutored in one-on-one sessions students in history, business, political science, English, creative writing, and composition, providing brainstorming assistance, discussion time, and research help, as well as composition reviews to get their rough drafts rolling. I participated in small-group tutoring that brought together students from integrated college comp. classes, both ESL and non-ESL, in an effort to improve their reading/writing, thinking, and analytical skills. My experience is coupled with a strong theoretical foundation: I hold a BA in Communications with minors in English and creative writing from Rowan.
Teaching Style
Tutoring is as personally a rewarding experience as learning. My philosophy is to help students understand that learning and becoming better writers, readers, and thinkers—better people, in fact—is something worth striving for. I have the patience, dedication, and knowledge necessary to help students articulate and meet their own goals, and I encourage them to ask questions and share ideas and opinions. The fresh environment I help foster is one of creativity, humor, and mutual respect. I welcome all students from diverse backgrounds, different majors and ages, who need help drafting, editing, researching and revising. One’s education is priceless, and I believe that all of my students can reach their potential and discover their own voice.
