Experience Summary
I am an experienced teacher of grades 7-12, having taught in my native Australia for over 17 years.
I have specialized in teaching senior English and English as a Second Language. I have been a faculty head as well as Curriculum Coordinator.
My teaching experience has involved preparing students for state-wide testing. I have written detailed teaching documents which were prepared for the faculty and which contained extensive lesson plans.
I am currently completing a masters degree in English Literature and am working as a free lance copy editor.
Teaching Style
I have a very flexible approach to teaching and am able to adapt to each student's unique learning style. I am familiar with ‘constructivist’ learning and have successfully applied this approach in the classroom with various strategies designed to assist all students in maximizing their learning. I encourage students to actively participate in their own learning, rather than being passive recipients.
Students who are disengaged can become engaged when they are in a positive, supportive environment, where their own individual learning style is catered for. Inquiry based learning as opposed to students as passive ‘sponges’, also creates higher levels of student engagement.
