Experience Summary
I hold a Master of Science degree in Chemistry granted in September 2004. I also have 33 credits approved in course works in Secondary Education (18 at the undergraduate level and 15 at the graduate level) including courses in Science Education, Foundation of Education, and Learning Evaluation. I have ten years of experience in teaching at the middle, high school and college levels. Courses taught at the college level include Chemistry for Nursing /Health Science majors, Preparatory Chemistry, General Chemistry for Liberal Arts majors, and College Chemistry for Science and Engineering majors. Classes taught at the High Scholl level include Chemistry (Honors/Regular), AP Chemistry, and Physics.
Teaching Style
Since Chemistry is both qualitative and quantitative, I encourage students to actively participate in the classroom. When I explain a problem involving calculations, I want my students to actively participate in the solution of it and not be just passive receptors. The same goes for writing formulas and names for compounds. The key to succeed in Chemistry is active participation and practice problems, and I always emphasize that to my students. Whenever possible, I use visual aids or videos downloaded from the Internet to present certain topics that involve abstract concepts. I make clear to my students that in Chemistry what is important is to develop problem-solving skills and not to memorize concepts or data.
