Experience Summary
Most recently, I was a high school math teacher for 3 years specializing in PreAlgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Astronomy. I taught regular, advanced, and special education classes. I strongly believe that students grow and excel when they are given challenges that are just beyond their current level of understanding. I was a special education paraprofessional for six years at the elementary and high school level. I have a BS in Physics/Astronomy with a Math minor from Vanderbilt University, and I taught for four years at the United States Naval Nuclear Power School.
Teaching Style
I provide a structured environment for students to achieve their full potential in subjects that may, at first, appear intimidating. I have high expectations and encourage independent, creative thought. Problem solving and reasoning skills are empahasized. Instead of just giving answers, I guide students to participate in the learning process and discover their own answers.
