Experience Summary
I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Applied Mathematics and BS in Biochemistry, and two master degrees, MA in Mathematics and MS in Applied Mathematics. While being a graduate student, I was a teaching fellow and taught Algebra, Business Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Business Calculus for five years. In addition to being an instructor at universities, I have tutored high school and college students in Algebra, Calculus, Probability, Statistics and Matlab. I also have tutored Japanese to adults since it is my native language.
Teaching Style
I am good with working with people and am able to accommodate individual levels of education with patience and caring. For students who need basic understanding of arithmetic, I connect complicated concepts with everyday life, and use repetition to form their basic skills. For those who need help in more advanced Mathematics, I introduce theoretical problem solving. For any level, I engage students in the process of solving a problem rather than showing a solution. One of my goals for my students is to give them confidence in solving a problem on their own. I believe that having confidence motivates them to learn more and succeed. I tutor Japanese with repetition and try to create an environment so that they can use Japanese more often.
