Experience Summary
With 7 years of international and U.S-based teaching, tutoring, and training experience, I am at ease teaching multiple subjects to individuals and entire classes. I have taught middle-grades Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science, High School English, and reading and writing to adults. I also designed English and French curricula and lessons for my students in my Peace Corps service country of Palau. My many years living and working overseas have afforded me perspective on the world that comes in handy when working with students, as I am able to offer personal anecdotes and cultural knowledge about global matters to supplement their academic investigations.
Teaching Style
With so many years teaching middle school students in classrooms, I specialize in crafting just the right learning environment for students, emotionally safe but a little push outside their intellectual comfort zone. This is achieved through patience, clarity of thought, and modeling a sense of wonder about the world. I have worked with students who receive special education services as well as gifted students, and am adept at differentiating content and delivery to best promote comprehension and retention. Finally, everyone learns best when they feel like they are having fun and making their own discoveries--it's my job to ensure this sense of adventure is part of students' educational experience, offering ever more motivation to learn.
