Experience Summary
During my 35-year of teaching, I spent 30 years teaching everything
from Alg. 1, Geometry, Alg. 2, Trig., Statistics. I was also a math department chair for 5+ years. In that capacity I wrote curriculum for local and county districts. I also lead my department and county in choosing texts. I worked on committees at the county level in training teachers. After my retirement,
I realized that I missed teaching and working with young people and helping them prepare for ACT tests and classroom assignments. I have spent the last year tutoring at Sylvan learning centers. I absolutely love my job!
However, my center is closing and I hope to move on.
Teaching Style
I have loved teaching and still keep in touch with many of my
former students. In fact, I have taught many of their children!
I seem to end up helping students with more than just their
homework. I have always had a talent for understanding that not
everyone "gets it the first time." I had much trouble with science
myself. When I was responsible for hiring teachers, I usually
wasn't a fan of those with 4.0 averages. I was afraid they wouldn't have the patience to answer the same question 10 times!
I always try many methods (visual, auditory, tactile) until we
find the right one for my students. I consider it my personal challenge to be able to get that "aha" out of a young person.
