Experience Summary
As a seeker of truth with an acute interest in human nature, cognition and development, I am naturally drawn to education of today’s children to help construct the foundation for a sustainable tomorrow. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a BA in Philosophy and BA in Anthropology, which has enabled me to gain insight in the acquisition and development of thought, language and literacy. During the last nine years in the classroom I have learned and used practical teaching strategies and have taught students developmental strategies in literacy, math, science, and philosophy. A continuing quest for comprehension outside of the classroom has led me to help children in self understanding and yoga.
Teaching Style
I am drawn to education by the enjoyment of children and I am often requested as a substitute teacher because of my calm demeanor, patience and kindness with all children. Children and adults learn developmentally; by using their previous knowledge to build new understanding. I believe in helping children realize their potential by supporting them with a comfortable base of knowledge and then giving them challenges that they can successfully work through. In the developmental model kids learn step by step and tutoring provides the invaluable opportunity for individual assessment on which to prepare deliberate and specific instruction to quickly move students toward the excellence of their unique human potential.
