Experience Summary
As a graduate of the University of Puget Sound, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English studies as well as a minor in Biology. I spent a year in college editing the student newspaper, in which I furthered my strong writing and editing skills. During my job at a legal education organization, I wrote and released press releases, managed an online newsletter, and researched and developed position papers. Following that, I achieved my teaching credential. I teach 11th and 12th grade English, inspiring students to become better readers, writers, thinkers and speakers, and prepare them for college. My tutoring, work, and teaching experiences, along with my strong writing and editing experience, have advanced my skills and strengths.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is student-centered. This approach is two-fold. I use scaffolds to assist in the discovery process, but encourage students to truly perform the “learning” independently, better preparing them for future endeavors. I also focus my delivery and content around the students’ interests, skill-levels, and abilities. I believe everyone has the right to an education and modify accordingly. I am patient, humorous, and approachable. It is not my goal for the students to fear me; I want to be an authority figure that they respect but also trust. I encourage students to think outside of the box as well as raise them to higher standards and skill levels. I am passionate about education, reading, and writing, and it shows!
