Experience Summary
I obtained a strong liberal arts education where I was able to experience and learn about a wide range of academic topics. However, I have a strong focus and specialization in the sciences with a BA in both Biology and Chemistry with a Mathematics minor. Math and science has been a strong area of mine, as I was a Supplemental Instructor for a genetics course for two semesters, as well as being a Laboratory Assistant that assisted students with questions or problems during genetics laboratory. I took a course entitled "Teaching Evolution" in which students developed their own teaching styles, specifically based in the scientific disciplines.
Teaching Style
I believe that the most effective teacher is one who guides the students to finding the correct answers. Instead of simply giving out answers, a teacher should encourage students and help them along the process for them to find out the solutions on their own. By overseeing this learning process and helping along the way, the teacher ensures that the student will learn that they are capable of learning the material and further increase their confidence in academics.
