Experience Summary
I started my education with business management and accounting. As I got further in to my coursework, I realized there was more to business than balancing the checkbook and counting inventory. I started to learn about preparing taxes midway through college and realized that not only did like doing taxes, I also enjoyed helping people. As my knowledge of taxation, from the federal down to municipal level, increased I found myself in a position teaching others to become tax preparers. I enjoyed that experience so much because teaching the topics helped me to understand them better myself. In an endeavor to continually expand my own knowledge, I would like to pursue other teaching and tutoring opportunities.
Teaching Style
I am somewhat new to teaching, though my lack of tenure does not equate to my enthusiasm. My approach is to first find out what the students know about the topic and what comfort level they are at with the material. Once I have gotten a sense of where the student is at in the learning process, we then use their current knowledge as building blocks for future lessons. My teaching and tutoring experiences have focused on accounting and taxation topics, which I know can be overwhelming at times. In light of that fact, patience and practice are the foundation of my teaching habits. I believe that learning is not a spectator sport and that active participation is key to achieving educational goals.
