Experience Summary
Over the past 29+ years I have been teaching in the fields of Elementary Education and Special Education. I am certified in Elementary Education, Learning Disabilities, Mentally Handicapped (Intellectually Delayed), and Behavior Disordered. In addition, I have tutored students occasionally since High School. Most of my experience is in Special Education supporting the students in the General Education setting, and teaching Replacement Reading, Writing and Math. I have tutored students in Kindergarten - High School.
Teaching Style
My greatest joy is in watching the progress of students, knowing I am making a difference. I know my students will be productive members of society now/in the future. I use a variety of techniques in order to get the "ahha's" when a student understands. I believe all children can learn and become lifelong learners when given opportunities to learn strategies that work for them. If I find that a technique is not working, I go to my repertoire of techniques until I find one that works. I use humor/silliness to help students retain what they have learned. To see the enthusiasm on a learner's face and to hear it in their voice when they understand something, makes teaching a fantastic job.
