Experience Summary
Since 2005 I have been a staff tutor in the English Writing Center at Foothill Community College. My expertise is helping college students with their English essays: thesis statements,
introduction, conclusion, body paragraphs, grammar and sentence level. I help them to understand the instructor's expectations and the assignment directions, and any texts they are using. Summary and synthesis are often part of this process. I also help students with the revision process or rewrites. I am also happy to work with High School students.
Teaching Style
I use a friendly, non-judgemental, collaborative approach when working with students. My goal is to help them become better writers by becoming aware of the thinking and writing skills that writing essays demands. In order to decrease dependency on the tutor, students learn how they can identify their own errors, how to correct the errors, and what resources they can use to help themselves in the future. I very much enjoy working with college students, and have been a very successful tutor at Foothill College. We usually have a lot of fun discussions which helps them brainstorm ideas and form connections between the text and their own experience. I would also enjoy working with high school students.
