Experience Summary
I graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA in mathematics and music. At Wesleyan, I worked as a teaching assistant and hosted held weekly TA sessions to provide homework help to students. In addition, I have experience working as an SAT math tutor and developing math exercises for the web. Most recently, I have worked in Brooklyn as a math and English tutor (K-12) for students struggling in school.
Teaching Style
In general, I believe that the more I can get the student to talk and ask questions the better. If I'm doing all the talking, then most likely the student is either bored or confused - or both. Also, as much as possible, I try to tailor my methods to the particular student. This can mean speaking in a way that I think is most natural to the student. It can also mean asking the student to explain a problem in his/her own words so that I know he/she is not just parroting the textbook. Whenever possible, I try to teach different methods to solve any particular math problem in order to find the one that works best for the student.
