Experience Summary
I love the English language with its nuances, beauty, and precision of meaning. I taught in public schools for a number of years as a substitute, then returned to the university to study teaching of art, finally achieving a Master's Degree in English (All A's), with certifications to teach both subjects. I have helped a number of adults to improve their writing, have edited and proofread others' works. I wrote a number of monographs for scholarly conferences and taught Freshman and Sophomore English at Texas State University for eleven years because I love teaching, tutoring, and writing. I have been teaching part time in a local school district. I am a "Renaissance woman" with many interests.
Teaching Style
Depending on who I am teaching and what topic, I firmly but gently involve the students in the areas where they need help. I motivate them to a greater interest, therefore a more satisfactory outcome. Because I love reading, writing, and communicating, my interest and enthusiasm becomes contagious to others. I am patient and inventive in my teaching methods, fitting my style of teaching to the interests and experience of the student. When a student enjoys reading and writing, he or she then is more excited about learning for the rest of his or her life. These people become leaders. Therefore, I strive to entice my students to discover the joy in learning throughout their lives.
