Experience Summary
I have taught students of all learning levels Science grades 6-12, for 14+ years in the Texas Public Schools. I have taught ESL students, as well, for I am bilingual:reading, writing and speaking.
I have more experience with the middle school student, than the high school student, but am quite capable of teaching either.
I have been an Item Writer for Oakhills Technologies, Inc. in Austin, Tx--writing questions for the TeXES test for Science Teacher Certification.
I have sat on the State Board of Education Textbook Committee-review board for 6th grade Science.
I am presently contracted to Pearson Vue as a Scorer for 10th grade Mathmatics.
Teaching Style
I am a hands on teacher. Most of the students I have taught, have not reached the analysis state of learning. This has always been my goal, to teach the student to think for his or her self.
I do not give extensive lectures, I find that it just befuddles the student. I give facts to learn, and the we apply those facts to a hands on setting for application. I believe this backs up the theoretical book learning, and gives the student confidence in the work he or she does.
When they find they've done it, they are amazed--the spark of achievement in their eyes is the most gratifying thing of my career.
