Experience Summary
I have spent the better part of the past 12 years teaching grammar, creative writing, literature, and basic English structure. I have my BFA in Creative Writing and my BA in English from Arkansas Tech University, and I have my MA in English from Highlands University. I have taught all levels of college composition, creative writing, and American Lit. Also, I have taught English at the high school level. Also, I have a minor in American History.
Teaching Style
I believe in personal interaction with students – making them write, making them read – going over every detail, looking at the issues (grammar, punctuation, syntax, coherent structure (logic, unity, transitions, parallelism,)) and then re-writing and re-reading. The key to doing well in English is understanding basic structure and making it become second nature when writing. Through personal interaction, the process can be simplified by working hands on with each sentence and paragraph. A student learns best when he/she actually reads and writes and has someone to work with on the structure – through a workshop type approach – writing and re-writing. I like to have fun, but I want quality work from my students
